Things to Know About Brushing Your Pool

22nd Jan 2016

Most pool owners understand the importance of regularly vacuuming their pools. Unfortunately, not everyone is as diligent about brushing the pool before hand. You should brush your pool regularly to keep your pool looking and functioning its best. Beyond aesthetics, there are a variety of benefits to completing this task at least twice per week.

  • Make sure you're thorough. This should take about 15 minutes for a small pool and 30 minutes for a larger pool. Get behind the ladders, along the water line, the stairs, and any corners or crevices your pool may have.
  • Any professional in the pool industry will recommend an 18" pool cleaning brush with a nylon head. This is the ideal tool for getting stubborn debris and algae.
  • Commit to brushing twice each week, and every time you vacuum. Sticking to this will result in a crystal clear pool.
  • Be sure to clean the filter and vacuum hose after brushing. The large debris and algae can quickly dirty up your equipment.
  • Don't forget the bottom of the pool, as this will help with aesthetics and safety.
  • Always brush before and after keeping the cover on for a long time. This will prevent algae build-up and... you guessed it... a green pool!
