6 Tips To Opening Your Pool

29th Jan 2021

Everyone loves playing in the pool on a hot summer day. However, opening the pool for the season can seem like a daunting task. This year, we have a few tips to make it easier. Open your pool properly and quickly, and you’ll be swimming in clean and safe water in no time!

Equipment Checklist

Before you begin to open your pool, double-check your pool equipment. Make sure everything is up-to-date and working properly. From the brushes to pumps, we recommend checking everything and replacing any items that have become worn out or damaged over time.

  • Pool Vacuum
  • Pool Hose
  • Pump
  • Soft Brush
  • Pool Filters
  • Hand Tools

Cleaning & Removing The Pool Cover

Using a soft brush, clean off loose debris on your pool cover. Once you’re finished removing that debris, it’s time to get your pump to remove any standing water that may be on your cover. Once everything is removed, it’s time to remove the cover from your pool. We recommend having someone help you when removing your pool cover. Once removed, inspect the cover and properly fold it. Store it in a safe, climate-controlled area over the summer.

Skimming the Surface

Once your pool cover is off, it’s time to get the debris out of your pool. Using a skimmer, you can remove any loose debris that may have fallen into the pool while removing your pool cover. Removing debris from your pool will help prevent filtration problems moving forward. Spend some time removing debris now.

Remove Winterizing Plugs

When you closed your pool for the season, you installed winterizing plugs. Now that you can let water in your pool, it’s time to remove them. One thing to note is that when doing this, you will see some bubbles appear. This is normal for all types of pools. Walk around your pool and remove the winterizing plugs you installed.

Test Your Water

At the beginning of the year, it’s recommended that you take a sample of your pool water to a pool supply store to get an accurate baseline. This is the best way to keep your pool water safe and clean if changes occur throughout the season. It’s easy and worth the small initial investment.

Vacuum Your Pool

To keep your pool clean and safe throughout the season, spend a night cleaning it with your vacuum. Manually vacuuming your pool lets you pick up any debris that may have fallen into your pool. Debris and leaves don’t belong at the bottom of your pool. No one wants to swim in a dirty pool.
